Crosland Partners With Tuscan And Landcraft On Urban Infill Project In Plaza-MidwoodCharlotte, NC, March 20, 2000 -
Crosland Contractors, a division of The Crosland Group, Inc., has been retained to construct townhouses at Kensington
Court, an urban infill project in the Plaza-Midwood historic district being
developed by Tuscan Development and Landcraft Properties.
Urban infill is the process of reclaiming under-utilized land in
already-developed areas to create new and better properties. Martin Kerr,
President of Crosland Contractors, says, 'As Charlotte has grown and people's
drive time has increased, infill addresses a real need in the market to create
more convenient, economical housing in exciting new developments. Crosland's
involvement in this project is very much in keeping with our smart growth
strategy.
Kensington Court will consist of 20 two-bedroom townhouses ranging in price from
$130,000 to $150,000 and in square footage from 1,040 to 1,090. The new
community will be located on the west side of Pecan Avenue at Kensington Avenue.
The architecture will blend with Plaza-Midwood's older homes. The first units
will be ready for occupation in the fall.
This is the second residential infill project on which Crosland and Tuscan have
collaborated. In March, Crosland Contractors completed construction for Tuscan
on Hawthorne Court, a 17-unit townhouse community at the corner of Hawthorne
Lane and Independence Boulevard.
Tuscan Development was founded in 1995 and is owned by James Cole and Ray 'Rip'
Farris III. Tuscan conceived the Kensington Court project to offer a more
economical housing alternative in an area that feeds uptown.
Landcraft Properties, headed by Frank Martin, has built homes in the Southeast
for 20 years.
