Harris Teeter Leases at Rea Village, May 20,2002

Crosland, one of the Southeast’s leading, diversified, privately-held real estate companies, has leased 40,000 square feet in the new Rea Village Shopping Center to Harris Teeter for the company’s latest expansion in the south Charlotte market. Shelco Inc., general contractor for the development, has begun construction on Rea Village with stores scheduled to open in the spring of 2003.

Rea Village is a joint venture of Crosland and the Rea family and will be managed and leased by Crosland. It is located at the corner of the East/West Circumferential Road (Ardrey Kell Road) and Providence Road, just one-quarter mile south of Interstate 485.

“As south Charlotte continues to grow, it is important to continue to provide high quality, necessity retail,” said Crosland senior vice president Wade Robinson. “Harris Teeter is one such retailer who constantly contributes to the quality of life for those who live in the surrounding neighborhoods.”

Rea Village is located in one of the fastest growing and most affluent sub-markets in Charlotte. “With 55,000 square feet of retail, dining and service space available, Rea Village will host a variety of national, regional and local retailers in the neighborhood center,” adds Alex Dmyterko, president of Crosland’s retail division. Outparcels have been sold previously to a combination Petro Express and Wendy’s venture and to a post office branch which opened in 2000.

Despite an early, soft economy in 2002, Charles Thrift, leasing associate in Crosland’s retail division, states, “The initial response on leasing has been overwhelming. It shows there is a real demand for small shop space, which will serve the affluent growing markets of south Charlotte.”

The design of Rea Village will consist of timeless, Colonial architecture that is inviting to pedestrians. Buildings will be constructed of tumbled brick, composite stone and stucco with metal roofs. Fabric awnings, landscaped thoroughfares and lighted sidewalks will further enhance the development.

“We have gathered a strong design team including One On One Design (project architect), James McGovern & Associates, and Little & Associates Architects (Harris Teeter architect),” states Chris Grenier, development manager at Crosland. “This team is very committed to making Rea Village a tremendous success.”
