3030 SOUTH at New Bern Street Station: a new Mixed-use Community Designed as a Transit-oriented Urban VillageCharlotte, N.C. (April 23, 2002) – Crosland Heath Partnership, LLC, a
joint venture between Crosland, Inc. and Heath Partners, LLC, announces 3030
SOUTH at New Bern Street Station on the proposed South Corridor Light Rail line.
Located in South End at the intersection of South Boulevard and New Bern Street,
3030 SOUTH is Charlotte’s first Light Rail, transit-oriented, urban village – a
destination that mixes for-sale townhomes, flats, and live/work townhomes with
two small retail/office buildings to create a residential village with a
storefront streetscape connecting South Boulevard to the Light Rail station.
3030 SOUTH follows the innovative planning guidelines set forth by the City for transit supportive
development along the South Corridor Light Rail line. This new village also
benefits from the Light Rail Station Area Plans that include enhanced
streetscape and sidewalks along South Boulevard, an urban park where the
Wachovia Branch is now, and a Linear Pedestrian Park in the Light Rail right-of
way connecting New Bern Street Station to Morehead Street. Light Rail service
between Center City and Pineville begins in early 2006, and promises to be a
turning point in Charlotte’s transportation history.
Crosland Heath and FMK Architects looked to historical precedents, modern-day transit goals and
contemporary architecture as they crafted the plans for 3030 SOUTH. The
townhomes feature historically proportioned facades with contemporary details,
rooftop terraces and two-car private garages. All of the interiors are open
with high ceilings and tall windows. Some of the flats are oriented to a private
garden square and others to the Light Rail line. The live/work townhomes make it
possible to create the wonderful storefront streetscape leading to the New Bern
Street Station
3030 SOUTH is being built on
a 4-acre site and will include 62 one and two-bedroom flats ranging from 690 to
1,160 square of feet heated area, some with private two-car garages, and 25
two-bedroom townhomes in the 1,100 square foot range, all with private two-car
garages, and 8 live/work units. Pre-construction prices start at $125,900.
Construction is scheduled to begin late summer/early fall with final completion
targeted for Summer 2003, and move-ins beginning late Spring 2003.
“The result is a fine urban
village that celebrates the advent of Light Rail in Charlotte and is, at the
same time, scaled to honor the pedestrian,” explains Andy Heath, a co-developer
in the Crosland Heath Partnership. “We believe our customers will recognize the
“beginning now” value of easy access to all points in South End and Uptown, and
quick access to Dilworth’s fine shopping, and the “coming soon” bonus of a
6-minute Light Rail travel time to Center City with no car to park.”
“The goal of 3030 SOUTH is to create a great place to live on Charlotte’s first Light Rail line,” explains
Jud Little, president of Crosland’s apartments division. “By bringing together
the best in architecture and urban planning, 3030 SOUTH at New Bern Street
Station will be such a place.”
Earlier this week, 3030 SOUTH opened a sales office on the site and has launched a website,
www.3030south.com. The website and sales office offer more information about
the project, including floor plans and renderings. For more information, people
may visit the website or call the sales office at 704-665-9988
