| | | Mauldin Joins Crosland as Senior VP of Mixed/Multi-Use Development Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 8, 2006 – Stephen H. Mauldin has joined Crosland Inc., one of the Southeast’s leading real estate companies, as senior vice president of mixed/multi-use development.
In this new position, Mauldin is responsible for strategic planning of Crosland’s mixed- and multi-use initiatives in the Charlotte region. He will spearhead several projects now in exploratory stages, such as redevelopment of Crosland’s land holdings in the Scaleybark Station area, which will evolve into a transit-oriented mixed-use development along the South Corridor light-rail line.
In recent years, Crosland has broadened its focus from single-use projects to developments integrating multiple uses. Such projects currently under development include Biltmore Park Town Square in Asheville, N.C.; Oberlin Court in Raleigh, N.C.; Southpoint Village in south Durham, N.C.; Blakeney in south Charlotte, N.C.; and the Gulch district in downtown Nashville, Tenn.
Mauldin will be responsible for generating new mixed-use development opportunities, which will include infill, adaptive reuse, brownfield and greenfield sites, and facilitating collaboration among Crosland’s divisions to evaluate the best uses for such sites.
He previously was a partner at Crutchfield Capital, a private equity investment firm, where he spent the last eight years leading the investment in, and active management of, small- to mid-sized operating companies. In this role, he served as CEO of two portfolio companies, Insight Imaging and Aviation Mobility.
Before Crutchfield Capital, he held operational and leadership positions in the multifamily, corporate and capital markets divisions of real estate investment firm Security Capital Group; Crosland CEO Todd Mansfield was a managing director of Security Capital at that time. Mauldin began his career in commercial real estate lending in central Florida with SouthTrust Bank and First Florida Bank.
“Steve’s strong leadership background and entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with his investment acumen, will contribute greatly to our mixed-use development activities,” said Mansfield. “As the number of Crosland’s mixed-use projects continues to grow, Steve will be instrumental in the planning and management process.”
Mauldin is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers. He earned his master’s in business administration with a major in real estate from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and received his bachelor’s of science in finance from the University of Tampa.
